Employee Spotlight: Celebrating 13 Years with Rey De Los Santos

At Signature Eye Care, we believe that exceptional patient care starts with exceptional people. This month, we’re celebrating one of the true cornerstones of our practice, Rey De Los Santos, who has been part of the Signature Eye Care family for 13 years.
If you’ve ever visited our office, chances are you’ve met Rey. As our Chairside Technician and the team member responsible for Contact Lens Training for new wearers, Rey has helped thousands of patients feel comfortable and confident with their eye care. His kindness, patience, and positive attitude have made a lasting impression on both our patients and our team.
In fact, Rey has become such an important part of our culture that our team proudly adopted the name “StingRey” in his honor—a fitting tribute to someone who has helped shape our practice for over a decade.

From Newcomer to Expert

When Rey joined Signature Eye Care 13 years ago, he was completely new to the optical industry.
“I was brand new to the industry when I first started,” Rey recalls.
Like anyone learning something new, he experienced a few memorable moments along the way.

A First-Day Story We’ll Never Forget

One of Rey’s funniest memories happened during only his second week on the job.
“Dr. Lou asked me to get a plunger for a patient. I immediately went to the restroom and grabbed the bathroom plunger! As I was walking past the front desk, our receptionist stopped me just in time and explained that Dr. Lou meant a contact lens plunger used to remove gas permeable contact lenses. I can’t imagine what
Dr. Lou would have thought if I had walked back into the exam room holding the bathroom plunger!”
Thankfully, disaster was avoided, and the story has become one of the office favorites ever since.

Growing Through the Years

Over the past 13 years, Rey says one of his biggest lessons has been learning patience.
“I’ve learned to have more patience when working with patients—and with my crazy coworkers!” he jokes. “My abilities and skills have grown so much since I started, and I’m still continuing to learn every day.”
That commitment to growth is one of the many reasons patients appreciate working with him.

A Contact Lens Success Worth Eight Pizzas

As the person who trains new contact lens wearers, Rey understands that everyone learns at a different pace.
One patient, a determined 16-year-old girl, needed eight separate visits before she successfully learned how to insert her contact lenses.
“When she finally got it, her dad surprised our entire office with eight boxes of pizza to thank us for not giving up on her. That was a really special moment.”
It’s stories like these that remind us that patience, encouragement, and teamwork can make all the difference.

Favorite Memories

When asked about his favorite memories at Signature Eye Care, Rey says it’s the moments spent together as a team that stand out the most.
He fondly remembers celebrating his 10-year anniversary with lunch at Jack Allen’s Kitchen, playing basketball and pickleball during lunch breaks with the doctors and staff, and even tackling a Tough Mudder event together.
“It’s the time we’ve spent together that I remember the most.”

Life Outside the Office

When he’s not helping patients see better, Rey enjoys expressing his creativity at home.
He loves landscaping his yard and designing new outdoor spaces, enjoys singing and karaoke with friends, and dedicates his time to serving others by volunteering at a local nursing home where he teaches Sunday School and sings for the residents.
Family is also incredibly important to him, and he frequently travels to Dallas to spend time with loved ones.
As for his favorite vacation?
“The Philippines, of course, my home. I love being near the ocean and spending time with my extended family.”

Why He Still Loves Coming to Work

After 13 years, Rey’s passion for serving others hasn’t changed.
“Helping patients every day is my mission. Signature Eye Care is my home away from home, and I take pride in keeping it neat and clean every day. It’s a great feeling coming to work and seeing our office looking its best.”
His dedication is evident in everything he does, from making nervous first-time contact lens wearers feel at ease to helping create the welcoming environment our patients experience every day.

Thank You, Rey!

Rey, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your servant’s heart, your contagious positivity, and the countless lives you’ve impacted over the past 13 years. You are an invaluable part of the Signature Eye Care family, and we’re grateful for everything you do.
Here’s to many more years of helping patients see clearly and creating plenty more unforgettable stories along the way.
